On Christmas morning, we opened gifts with Papa (grandpa) and Grandma. Ah-pa spent a short time explaining why we exchange gifts with one another to Elijah. God gave Jesus as a gift to us because He loves us. In the same spirit, we give gifts to one another as a reflection of God's heart and our love for each other. And then, it was time to open up the gifts! Elijah loved opening up his gifts--Lego sets, a tea and kitchen set, and books.

Christmas 2010 (Part I)
Christmas 2010 was quite memorable for a couple of reasons. For one, this is the first Christmas that I think Elijah had some grasp of its meaning and celebration. We spent the Advent season learning about different truths about Jesus: "He is the light of the world,""He is the way to God," "He is Immanuel--God with Us," "He came to save us," etc. We made words that reflected these truths to go with the tune to "This Little Light of Mine" and we learned to sing it every morning during our Bible reading time. We also got to present gifts to Jesus, His own Christmas tree at the Christmas Eve service and our songs in celebration of Jesus' birthday.

Later that day, Uncle Jin, Auntie Grace, cousins Christian and Evan, Uncle Daniel, and Auntie Grace came up to celebrate Christmas with us. We had a yummy meal, the guys spent some time watching the Lakers game, and we sang Christmas songs together. We also spent some time skyping with hal-ah-buji, hal-muh-ni, and the Lech family who were not able to join us for the celebration. We were thankful and glad that we got to celebrate Christmas with family in 2010!

Disneyland! (December 14, 2010)
How would Elijah respond to Disneyland? Would the life size Disney characters scare him? Will he like the rides? We have heard mixed reviews of Disneyland for toddlers from various parents and we were not sure what our experience would be like. Our hunch was that he would really like it and we learned that we were right. He LOVED Disneyland! He still talks about it.
His favorite rides were Winnie the Pooh and Dumbo. We rode both of them a couple of times. He also enjoyed the Lady Bug ride at California Adventure. Thanks to mommy being on wheel chair (due to my twin pregnancy), we didn't have to wait in long lines, which was a nice bonus. He also got to meet Disney characters: Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and Pluto. We didn't get to meet Mini Mouse this time around, but we got to see her in the parade.
We got there around 9:30am and stayed until 8:30pm. I was pooped out by 6pm and was ready to go home, but Elijah wanted to stay and ride more rides! We had a blast and we hope in a few years we can do it again with the twin girls too! Special thanks goes to our friend Mark and his aunt who made our trip to Disneyland possible!

First Hair Cut (12/11/10)
It took almost two years for Elijah's hair to grow thick and long enough to get his first hair cut! Guess who the barber was? The one and only guy who gives Elijah a $75 shampoo treatment each time he takes a bath--Ah-pa!! Who knows whether the shampoo treatment that daddy gives is really worth $75, but Elijah always does come out of the bath with shiny hair. :)
We looked into possibly giving Elijah a professional haircut for his first one. But we decided we didn't want to spend $20, so ah-pa got his clippers and scissors out. I thought it was not too shabby for first try at cutting a toddler's hair. While ah-pa cut Elijah's hair, I entertained him by reading books. I say it was a SUCCESS!

TWO Baby Sisters!!
I sometimes wonder how much Elijah comprehends what is going on. He definitely knows that my tummy is getting bigger. Since our Monday doctor appointment, he has been much more interested in touching my tummy because he saw the ultrasound pictures. Every night, we are praying for the two babies and for the doctors.
Yesterday during his bath, we asked him a few questions.
P: Elijah, what is in mommy's tummy?
E: Babies
P: How many babies are in there?
E: Two!
P: Are they boys or girls?
E: Girls!
(And of course, I want to know whether he has any comprehension of what a boy or a girl is...So I ask)
Me: Elijah, are you a boy or a girl?
E: (Thinks a bit) a Boy!
Me: Wow! You're going to be a big brother to little baby sisters?
E: YES!
Elijah, you're going to be an AWESOME big brother to your baby sisters! They're so lucky to have you as their brother and you are so lucky to have them as your sisters..... Jesus has been good to us. I can't wait to see you grow up together.

Eenie meenie miney moe
I had taught Elijah "Eenie meenie miney moe" a while ago as we were choosing something. Since then, he memorized it and loves repeating it. Of course, his older cousins Jeshua and Seth were eager to share their versions of "eenie meenie miney moe" and repeated them to Elijah. He thought his cousins were so funny! Here's a video of Seth saying his version and Elijah and Mila having a great laugh! So cute.
"Eenie meenie miney moe, catch a tiger by the toe. If he hollers let him go, eenie meenie miney moe."
Seth's version: "Eenie meenie miney moe, catch a tiger by the toe. If he hollers, I don't care, I'll pull down your underwear."

Thanksgiving 2010
We spent our Thanksgiving with my side (Lee's) of the family up in northern California. We got to see snow, which was a treat for Elijah and for mom and dad. All the uncles and aunts came up, along with the cousins so it was a full house but a lot of fun! I'm so glad that Elijah has lots of cousins to play with. He really enjoys being with them. He got to taste his first turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and really liked eating pumpkin pie!
We also went to a Christmas tree farm the day after Thanksgiving. It was a lot of fun see and enjoy the many different types of trees available. On our way back to Los Angeles, we stopped in Santa Rosa to see Uncle Tim, Aunt Martha, cousins Cordell and Spencer from the Graf side of the family. Elijah loved Uncle Tim's boat!
International Traveler
Elijah has become quite the international traveler. We are so grateful that he travels so well. Our trip back to the States from India was pretty uneventful. I think with a toddler, I prefer to have multiple stops so that he can walk around and move about rather than be stuck in a plane for a long time. We had a layover in Bangkok, then a stop in Malaysia, and then another transfer in Taiwan. Thankfully, he slept most of the time during our longest flight (12 hours) from Taiwan to Los Angeles. Here is a video of Elijah at the airport.

Dialogues with my Twenty-Two month old
While playing with Percy and Thomas the train....
E: (suddenly says) "Best Friends!"
Me: "Just like Lowly the Worm and Huckle, and Frog and Toad."
Me: "Do you have a best friend, Elijah?"
E: (Thinks a bit) "No."
As we were talking about the twins in my tummy:
E: "Elijah want to kiss it."
Me:"Okay."
Me: "Elijah, what are you going to do with the two babies?"
E: "Kiss it, play peek-a-boo, feed it."
After waking up from his nap...
E: "Ah-pa at the office."
Me: "Yes, Ah-pa is at the office."
Me: "What is ah-pa doing at the office?"
E: "Working."
Me: "What does mommy do?"
E: "Eat and play!"
During breakfast this morning....
Daddy: What is my name?
E: "Paul"
Daddy: What is your name?
E: "Elijah"
Daddy: What is mommy's name?
E: "Super!"
(because Paul refers to me as Super-mom!) :)

Catching Up on Photos
Today, he was up on the stage with Paul and I for a presentation. He greeted everyone on the microphone with a "Jai Maishi" to a crowd of 400 plus people....this kid seems to have no stage fright and seems very comfortable with the mic.

The Words to Naked Baby (Toddler) Man
Our nightly bath routine ends with daddy singing "Naked Toddler Man" (it used to be "Naked Baby Man" but now he's too big for that) and going through a series of questions for Elijah. He started doing this when Elijah was around six months old! Elijah loves it. Here are the lyrics:
Naked Baby (Toddler) Man
Beginning to the tune of the Spider Man theme and deteriorating around the fifth line to anything that fits the words.
Naked Toddler Man, Naked Toddler Man
He's doing the things a naked toddler can
He makes a poop, any size
He is so sweet, you won't believe your eyes
He scoots around on his big fat thighs
He's Naked Toddler Man
Naked Toddler Man (4x)
He's Naked Toddler Man!
As Elijah is wrapped in the towel, Daddy begins asking these questions:
"So, Naked Toddler Man, are you going to reveal to us tonight where your naked toddler powers come from? Were you born on the planet Naked Toddlerton [and sent here by your parents just before it exploded (optional)]? Were you bitten by a radioactive naked toddler? Do you have a secret cave under the house where you keep the Naked Toddler Suit and the Naked Toddler Mobile? Did you fly through a radioactive meteor shower in outer space? Or, did you build the Naked Toddler Suit while you were being held hostage by terrorists in a cave? ... So that's where your Naked Toddler Powers come from!!"
The funny thing is that now, he answers, "Yes!" to these questions. So cute to watch.

Favorite Activities These Days
Cooking and playing kitchen--Our little guys picked a "knife" during his Dol celebration (traditional Korean one year birthday celebration), which supposedly means that he will become a cook/chef in the future. Well, if there is any truth to it, he sure is showing signs that he might one day become one. ;) He loves playing kitchen and cooking up pancakes, french toast, eggs, bacon, and dhaal-bhaat! He uses the little red stool we have as his stove (he even pretends to turn it on) and then puts his hand over the pan and says, "hot!" Then, he pretends to crack eggs and make fried eggs. He loves the spatula (I love how he says the word) and pretends to flip the pancakes. Oh yes, and we can't forget tea and coffee and the "cheers!" he likes to give! Pictures will be posted soon.
Drawing--They might look like "doodles" to us, but he is making art and is very focused about what he is doing. He can spend quite a bit of time playing with his crayons and markers. I introduced him to painting a few weeks ago. Pictures will be posted soon.
He likes it so much that the other day, it was warm and I asked him if he would like to go swimming. He says, "No. Elijah busy."
Singing/playing "piano"--He sings by himself, with us, and whenever it seems there is a free moment. He really loves music. He has this small toy piano and he loves to play it. Sometimes even while we're eating dinner, if he's singing, he'll pretend that he's playing the piano on the table. I definitely want to give him piano lessons when he gets older as I also enjoy the piano very much.
Nowadays, when we're in the car, he asks the stereo to be turned on. The other day, he said to our driver, "Uncle, turn on." We're still working on the "please" part.
Going to the office--He has a little pushing cart that he used to use when he was learning to walk. Now, he uses it as his car and says, "Bye mommy. Going to office." Then, I'll ask, "What are you going to do at the office?" He replies, "Working." We say our good-byes and he's off to the office.
Reading--He's a an avid "reader." His favorite author these days is Richard Scarry. He has practically memorized some of his books and can finish the sentences for us.
Yesterday, we went to the swimming pool but it was closed and we had to come home. I purposely said, "Oh, What a disappointment." (which is a phrase in one of the books - because they can't go sailing as it started to rain.) He says to me, "Father Cat!" (Father Cat was the one who said it to his children as he was putting away the sailing boat.) Then, we had a fun "conversation" about how our situation was of similar to the story and that it was disappointing that we couldn't go swimming because the filter system was broken. He amazes me.
Learning the difference between "Want" and "Need" -- I don't know if Elijah would put this as his favorite activity, but we are in the process of learning how to use these two words appropriately. He's learned the two words and uses them often, but hasn't quite figured out how they are different. Although, recently, I can see that he might be making some connections. Sometimes, he'll say, "Need it." and I'll just respond back with, "You don't need it Elijah. You want it." It's been a good reminder for me to think about how I use the words too....do I really need this or do I want it?

Happy Birthday, Ah-Pa!
We celebrated ah-pa's birthday on October 11th. Elijah made a birthday card and helped daddy blow out his birthday candles. Elijah's ah-pa is so amazing that he is getting younger every year! ;) Ah-pa turned "21" this year because mommy couldn't find any candles with number four or any other types of candles....

Elijah loves his ah-pa so much! These days, he LOVES to body slam ah-pa on the bed after his bath time. They love to read together. Ah-pa has also created these amazing photo collections, set to music, of various things that Elijah loves so that he can watch it whenever he wants. Ever since Elijah was a couple of months old, after bath-time, ah-pa would sing a funny song/story that he made up. When Elijah was a baby, it was called, "Naked Baby Man." But, now that Elijah is a toddler, it's called, "Naked Toddler Man." Mommy needs to record the story/song on the blog so that we have a record of it. Elijah loves it!
You're the BEST ah-pa and we LOVE you!
